A Useful First Target
Pick a non-essential desktop app you own and understand. Find the EXE that its shortcut actually opens, finish any work in it and exit the target. A Windows system component, security tool or app on a network path is not an appropriate first experiment.
Free App Lock evaluates the file and its permissions before accepting it. Links, hard-linked files, recovery data, its own installation and other unsuitable targets can be refused. Do not treat a refusal as a reason to force a permissions change elsewhere.
The Installer’s Research Choice
During setup, you may be invited to participate in RelevantKnowledge research. This is a separate decision from installing Free App Lock: choose Decline or Skip if you do not wish to join. The free application remains available without participation.
If you accept, the independent research program can run in the background and collect information about browsing and application activity. Review its invitation, agreement and privacy policy first. RelevantKnowledge is operated by TMRG, a Comscore company; the app publisher may receive compensation for participation.
The research program has its own removal entry in Windows Settings → Apps. Removing Free App Lock does not remove it automatically. Silent installation skips the invitation rather than accepting on your behalf. Read RelevantKnowledge’s policy.
After Installation
Create your management password, follow the prepare-and-protect sequence and export recovery information outside the active vault folder. The target file itself receives no password wrapper; restoring access happens inside Free App Lock.
