For an App Upgrade
- Restore access to each executable the updater needs to replace.
- Confirm the restoration message before opening the updater.
- Complete the vendor’s normal update process.
- Review the resulting executable path, apply a new restriction if appropriate and export a current kit.
For a Move or Rename
Restore first when you can. If the already restricted original has moved, locate that original through the manager. Copying a file or replacing it with another build changes the situation; the old record must not be applied to a different file.
For Removing Free App Lock
Restore every recorded file. Safe uninstall verifies the password and that no records remain in each registered profile, including recovery folders opened with --data-dir. Keep those folders and vaults available until the checks finish.
A missing or damaged profile or catalogue causes removal to stop so the application remains available for investigation. Deleting a vault or catalogue is not a way to restore Windows permissions.
Research Software Has Its Own Removal
If you joined the optional RelevantKnowledge panel during setup, it is a separate installation. Use its own entry in Windows Settings → Apps. The Free App Lock uninstaller does not remove it for you.
